ebay recently unveiled a new 20,000 square feet corporate space. In this new custom built space, named Main Street, a 165 inches (4K) screen fills the large entry hall. Six high resolution LED pillars, all synchronized, broadcast real time stats coming from online sales data.

Depending on the active mode, screens display real time sales stats from a specific product category, for a chosen day and hour.

Our mandate in this big undertaking - produced by Float4 and conceived by ESI Design - was to create the data displaying widgets. The project articulated itself around three distinct points:

Different API connexion: in order to correctly display the data, we established a precise connexion and a graceful degradation.

Data oriented animations: in order to add an attractive side to this digital data, an excellent knowledge of web based technologies was required, to create pleasant animations that are faithful to design.

Use of various combined technologies: managing a screen that big and a complex particle system required the use of various technologies. Caching of elements, creating animations accordingly and good communication between teams in charge of each of those technologies allowed us to create a unified and high quality product, without highlighting all the different components of the installation.

The final product was displayed in San Jose and was very well received by the client and the public.
